Set of three 18 ct yellow gold "fly" brooches, marked Boucheron, Paris



Australian openwork chased and engraved gold brooch, the central palm tree flanked by a kangaroo and an emu, the frame decorated with foliage, signed on the reverse "Von Joseph", c1865, height 4.3 cm, width 5 cm. Attributed to Joseph & Co. Melbourne, Sandhurst, Bendigo, 1859-82.




Anne Schofield established her specialist antique jewellery store in Sydney in Queen Street, Woollahra in 1969. Her particular interest is in 18th, 19th and early 20th century fine quality jewellery, including Australian jewellery.

She is a member of the International Society of Jewellery Historians, an honorary associate and life fellow of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney, and a valuer for the federal government's Cultural Gifts Program.

She has contributed to numerous magazines and, with Kevin Fahy, has co-authored the first comprehensive reference book on Australian jewellery, Australian Jewellery 19th & Early 20th Century, published by David Ell Press in 1990.
