#8133-11 A rare English glass in fine condition. Featuring a substantial bell-shaped bowl on a baluster stem. The base of the bowl containing a tear. The small knop and inverted baluster knop are also teared. The stem finishing with a small basal knop/swelling at the folded conical foot.

This is a specimen for the collector who wants a representitive glass for a budget price. It is a classical c1710-20 English Baluster with bell shaped bowl and double knopped baluster-type stem. Unfortunately the foot has a nasty bruize which allows it to be priced at not the usual$ $3000 to $5000.

Lead glass and in good original condition with a nicely fire polished bowl rim Height: 6.5" (165mm) Bowl: 2 10/16" (67mm) Foot: 2 15/16" (74mm) This type of English glass was so-named because of its use in the London Club of that name, founded in 1690s and suposed to be named after Pastry Chef, Christopher Katt (Catt). #1978 A very rare form of a Georgian Opaque Twist Wine Glass which dates to c1760-65 The glass has an Ogee Bowl above a Triple Series Opaque Twist Stem consisting of a pair of 6 ply spiral bands, outside a pair of spiral gauzes, the spiral gauzes having central solid cores. Sits on a conical foot which has an unground pontil. Triple Series examples of the Opaque Twist form are exceptionally rare. The glass is an English Lead example. It has a tiny pin prick on the bowl rim, quite insignificant. Apart from this it is in excellent condition with no further chips or restoration. The glass measures an impressive 160mm tall with a 48mm bowl and 70mm foot.
